John Leitch B.A. hons (1st class) Glasgow School of Art

John paints in a vigorous style, which is lively, colourful and painterly. His family roots in Argyll and his travels throughout Scotland and the Western Isles inspire much of his painting. From sketches and photographs, taken on location, his work captures the unique light so identifiable with the western isles. His approach is impressionistic and shows a wide range of influences from The Scottish Colourists to Matisse in both Oil and Watercolour.

"My work is concerned with capturing the lasting impression of 'place' through pattern and colour".

After graduating from The Glasgow School of Art (B.A.Hons 1st class) in 1979 John has had a 30 year career as a Teacher of Art (M.A. Ed), been curator of his own gallery (Rainbow's End Gallery, Moffat), been a professional musician and has exhibited in many of Scotland’s leading galleries. He is now a popular artist with work in collections worldwide, including works in the permanent collections of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Glasgow.

John also produces a range of works using the name Iain Macinleich, which is the Gaelic spelling of his name.
